How scary is school to you? Did you suffer there in the past?
Was trying to learn the subjects like beating your head against a brick wall?
Does the thought of going back to school make you feel like you would be putting a target on your back?
First off, I want to say you’re not alone. Lots of people found school to be a horrible place, and the thought of getting back into the hornet’s nest can be completely overwhelming. I get it. But let’s take a fresh look at the old problem. . .
Now You are in a Different Social Scene
One thing to remember is that as we get older the purpose of education has less to do with the social scene. In High School, the kids were just beginning to operate away from their families, and often got it really wrong and could be amazingly cruel.
On the other hand, maybe you were so into the High School social scene that it was impossible to focus on learning anything new in class.
But either way, that is not the situation anymore. We are free from the High School personalities, and maybe it is time to take a new look at what is out there to help us get an education
.
You Don’t Need to Fear the Three “R”s
Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic are the foundation of everything else there is to learn. So, once you are able to overcome your sticking points in these three areas, all the knowledge in the world begins to open up for you. It’s a wonderful feeling!
Did you know that an entire industry has grown up around helping adults with their school skills? You can get self-help books, work with tutors and take online classes geared toward helping you get ready for college. There are even special tutors who can edit your college and scholarship application essays.
For those already in college who need to brush up on their skills, almost every college or university has special classes which can help you get up to college level in English or Math.
